When Should I Start Orthodontics?

It’s never too late to start your journey to a beautiful and healthy smile. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends to have an orthodontic check-up by age 7. This is the optimum time to recognize any problems with a child’s bite and smile during development.

During an orthodontic visit for children, the Fishbein Orthodontics team takes a conservative approach to recommending treatment. As your child is still developing, we only recommend braces or Invisalign if there is a clear benefit.

As patients become adolescents or adults, there is no specific time to begin orthodontic treatment, although most adolescent treatments begin between the ages of 11 and 15. By 12, most of the permanent teeth have erupted and any crooked teeth, gaps, or bad bites are easily detected.

At Fishbein Orthodontics, teenage patients also have the opportunity to be treated with Invisalign Teen. At our practice, we offer our Invisalign Teen Guarantee, if your child does not like Invisalign for any reason, or does not wear their Invisalign trays, they can switch to braces at no additional cost.
